Blueberries

Blueberries – I Hope You Have Some

If you love blueberries and don’t have any — I encourage you to get a few bushes. Fall is a good time to plant.

You might want to research what varieties do well in your state before making a decision.  And you might want to review my posts on blueberries as well before you order. (I’ve listed them at the bottom for you.)

The only thing that I have to say about blueberries that I’ve not already said in previous posts is:

The great big berries (I “think” mine is the variety Chandler) are absolutely delicious and such fun to pick.  They seldom if ever make it into the house.  And the few that do — get gobbled up before the next day comes.

Thus, if you want berries to freeze for pies, muffins, or fresh from freezer as a snack — you might try a bush that has “regular” sized berries.

Also it’s nice to have berries that come in at different times. Berries on Sunshine Blue start to ripen about the first of June for me.  My BlueJay berries (along with the Chandler berries) ripen sooner.  And just that one bush gives me lots of berries for the freezer and fresh eating.

Final Thoughts

Blueberries are one of the healthiest fruits. They’re packed with antioxidants, vitamins and minerals.

And in my opinion they’re one of the most delicious. I especially love them with strawberries and think each makes the other even more delicious!

  • You read my mind!! I have been meaning to refresh my memory on how you grow blueberries, and here you are!!
(I’m not letting another spring finish without planting some bushes this year, no matter what – we are missing having fresh blueberries so much since we moved)

  • Glad to hear it, Giulia. I feel that folks who don’t have at least fresh blueberries and strawberries are really missing out on one of the most enjoyable parts of life!
